Ridge Forge Metalworks is based in Mid-Coast Maine. Noah Bly is a blacksmith and metalworker who produces made to order pieces and works closely with customers to create new designs. You can find the Ridge Forge shop in the backyard of Noah’s childhood home, up the hill from Turkey Cove. The house has been in the Bly family since 1875 and the people and scenery of the place have left a lasting impression on Noah’s life and work.
Noah’s father owned the auto shop up the street where he got his start and gained an interest in metalwork. After high school, Noah moved to Wyoming, first studying engine and chassis fabrication before moving to Florida and later Boston for training and work with BMW. Upon his return to Maine he bought a MIG welder to create a roll cage for a rally car he was to build. While working at his fathers garage he was inspired to start forging crude throwing knives out of old leaf springs and upon the recommendation of a neighbor, he built a forge to heat the metal. Working from an old book he taught himself for years before attending a class at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. There, he was impressed and inspired with the instruction of Doug Wilson and decided to make forging a priority. Noah started building a proper shop and taking commissions on the side while continuing work at the garage. He turned to custom metalwork full time in 2017 and enjoys making everything from candlesticks to gates.
